A fabulous time capsule of life in the 1820s. A wonderful collection of historical pieces in replica rooms that tell the story of Missouri’s early statehood days. Very inexpensive and interesting for all ages. Informative and friendly guides and docents, and a beautiful and peaceful back garden area to enjoy (the garden area is free to enjoy.

I absolutely loved this place and the wonderful tour that I was given by Chris. She was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the history of Missouri. This location and the early history of the state are fascinating. Definitely visit this place if you want to learn about the history of St Charles and Missouri in general. I highly recommend!

Very interesting tour. Excellent restoration of the site after many years of alterations, etc. We had our 3 year old with us and asked James to give us the "Readers Digest Tour" and he did great! Gave us the info we didn't know and skipped the things we had already learned. Well done!

Looks like it would be a cool place to take a tour. They are closed on Monday; so I took pics from outside the windows 🤷🏼♀️

Right in the heart of old St. Charles, this set of buildings represents the very first of Missouri's legislative centers. The visitor center is small, but has lots of information to share, and tours of the capitol building are on offer.
You're free to roam the grounds, which includes a lovely backyard area with river views. The yard contains gardens and plantings of all kinds, as well as sitting areas and plenty of shade.
The first capitol is an important part of Missouri's history, and the historic site preserves it wonderfully!
