I was given the name of Advanced Bone & Joint from my primary doctor as my injury was severe enough they wanted me to be seen as soon as possible. I was in quite a bit of pain so I took the first appointment I could get with them and what few reviews I could find on Dr. Melander were pretty good so I went to the appointment. My experience with the doctor was nowhere near the reviews I saw online. The nurse came in and got some info, not at all what I would call thorough, but she did take the time to get some. The doctor came in and could not have been in the room for over 5 minutes, asked if I had any swelling when the accident occurred, which I didn't, but the next day I could barely walk. He then pulled my leg up and down and side to side and said he didn't feel any instability. I already had x-rays, which I took with me, and I assume since there was no fracture, though he did say there could be a bone spur, and there was no instability, he decided as he put it "I think this is mainly in your head." For the record I was a high school and college athlete and I know pain. I also know when I can rehab something myself and when I need someone to look at something and help me with it. I did conservative rehab on 2 herniated discs so I know pain when I have it. I left the office, and the next day I went out to my garden and walked around it for approximately 30 minutes and by the time I went back inside my knee was the size of a small basketball. I'm sorry but that is not normal, something is wrong and maybe because I am a woman in my 60s this doctor believes it to be in my head. This appointment was a total waste of my time and my insurance's money and now I am looking for an orthopedic doctor who does not assume something is in my head having known me for approximately 5 minutes. I don't know the other doctors in this practice but if you are an older woman I definitely do not recommend Dr. Melander. ---------------------------------------UPDATE---------------------------------------------------I received a reply from Advanced Bone & Joint saying they wanted to make this right and I could speak to their CEO. I called, got a machine, left a message that I did want to speak to their CEO and not shocking, I have heard nothing from them since. Not really surprised due to the way I was treated at my appointment. Yet another reason to find an orthopedist somewhere else.
Dr. Melander performed shoulder surgery and arthroscopic knee surgery on me in 2016 and 2018. I have not had any problems since! Dr. Melander is a very pleasant person to deal with.
I highly recommend advanced bone and joint the staff, Doctors and NPN’s do everything they can for you to heal and recover from whatever it is your orthopedic condition is!
Dr. Melander has been my Orthopedic Surgeon since 2010. Due to my Osteoarthritis I have had several joint replacements. I have so much confidence and trust in Dr. Melander! He has always made me feel like he cares about my recovery AND he listens to me! He’s not just in and out of the room! His video says he may just spend five minutes with you, but he wants you to feel like he just spent 5 hours with you! Believe me, after 10 yrs. of surgeries and recoveries, I couldn’t have said it any better. He’s the BEST!
Dr Melander did a fantastic job on my knee. I tore my medial and lateral meniscus and thought running and sports were over. His excellent surgery as well as diligent coaching on rehabilitation has enabled me to play tennis at a very competitive level at 48. We trust our entire family to him and appreciate his skill and expertise.
