Third Wheel Brewing is home to one of the metros top Brewers - Abbey Spencer. The beer is consistently good, when it's not great. Every places has it's share of flops. Abbey's Porter and IPA are tops in the region (and her Black IPA is this reviewers' favorite beer). If this were a beer review, I'd be hard pressed not to give Third Wheel a 5... but this is a review of the overall brewery, not the beer. The partnership with Cory Koch has been a major draw for the brewery - as Cory's food has been consistently good and they are consistently fast. But it is a partnership and the food - while associated with the brewery - is not the brewery. If this were a review of the window, it'd be 4 of 5 stars I've been a weekly regular at Third Wheel since their first year of operation. When they opened, they had a great bar staff - attentive - making the extra effort - glasses poured in minutes of arrival and they were asking all the time if you wanted another. Over the last 18-24 months, service has fallen apart. If you sit at the bar now, you can go 10 minutes without service on arrival and 20-30 minutes with an empty glass while bartenders stand by the taps - checking their phones, gossiping among themselves, or chatting with Window staff while they are having a meal. We've slowly dialed back our visits as the lack of service has gotten progressively worse. So while beer is good and food (not produced by brewery but associated with the brewery) is good, one shouldn't expect the current bar crew to fill more than 1 beer order every 30-45 minutes. 3 of 5 is generous. That's how much I like Abbey's beer.
Excellent beer, great location and atmosphere. Fun spot to have a drink and socialize. On top of that, the food from The Window is top notch and pairs well with the beer. But the beer is the star, with a good variety of styles, both brewed in-house and some guest appearances. Plan to stay a couple hours because you won’t want to rush this experience.
Pretty decent beer in a nice big place! Lots of choices of beer for all tasted. They also have food! Fun time!!
First, there is no wait staff. You place your order at the bar and pick up your order. Not a problem. If you need wait staff to answer your every whim, this is not the place for you. Second, the location is inside a small strip center of perhaps 5 or 6 commercial businesses. From the outside, the space appears small; quite spacious on the inside. Third, the staff to order was outstanding; very nice folks. The beer selection was diverse and hit all the right notes. The food was "bar food", a lot of fried choices, but it was hot, well presented and tasty. The fried cod and chicken fingers were great. Last, on Thursday evenings "Beer Bingo" is played. There is no cost to play and the prizes are free beer. I was surprised how much fun something like this could be in our group of five. Definitely a place I wish to return too.
My wife and I went for drinks and a board game on a date night. Great beer, great food, incredibly friendly staff. Couldn't recommend more.
