I called Walmart Vision Center, Jungermann Rd, St.Peters, Missouri on 01/24/2024 & the receptionist scheduled me for an eye exam with contact fitting for 01/25/2024 at 12:00 pm. On 01/25/2024, at 10:11 am (1 hour & 49 minutes prior to the start of my appointment), the same receptionist calls to inform me they cannot see me because the Optometrist is retiring tomorrow and won’t be able to provide follow up. Follow up for a standard contact fitting??? I asked about the replacement Optometrist and was told “Yeah, we don’t have one picked out yet”. Then she told me “Maybe you should schedule your appointments sooner, like before you’re on your last set of lenses”. Guess what lady, we lost everything in a hurricane and relocated with nothing. We are just starting to get back on our feet and can afford out of pocket lenses and a vision exam. So your snide comments like “Hope you got a back up set *chuckle”, wasn’t necessary or helpful. Extremely unprofessional, extremely inconvenient, extremely last minute, & in no way did the receptionist make me feel like she empathized with my situation. This interaction was absolute atrocious customer service and felt like an excuse for the Optometrist to lighten their work load just prior to retiring.

Dr. VanGilder is wonderful!
I've always had trouble getting gas permeable contact lenses prescribed correctly for my eyes. When I first went to Dr. VanGilder decades ago, he fitted me perfectly with wonderful gas permeable contact lenses. I've seen him every year since my first visit, and he has always kept my vision perfect.
He is highly skilled, very kind, and very patient and methodical. What I hate most about moving away from this area is that I'm going to have to find a new optometrist. I hate losing Dr. VanGilder!

Not very friendly, despite me having a warranty they don’t wanna help me with my partially bent glasses. Gentleman at the front who’s a manager or something is not friendly. And seems annoyed when you come more than once needing help. This needs to change. But the actually main eye doctor who gives the exams the older gentleman is amazingly nice and helpful!

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I went for an eye exam to get a contact prescription and had a fine and normal appointment. I paid roughly $60 and made a comment about how the appointment was cheaper than I had expected, and no one said anything else.
I go back a few weeks later to purchase six month's worth of contacts and they tell me that I was charged wrong for my last visit and if I want to buy contacts I will have to pay the difference of THEIR mess up and the price of the contacts. Since when in retail does the customer have to pay more when the mistake is the company's fault?
The staff was very difficult to work with and basically acted like I was at fault. They didn't even know what was going on for the fist ten minutes I was there because the previous person had recorded the appointment wrong. Again, not my fault!
I was late back to work during my lunch hour because it took so long, and I left with only my prescription after they made me pay $50 to get it even though I'd already had the appointment and paid before!
I will take my prescription somewhere else that deserves the business for having good customer care. Their unwillingness to make the situation right has lost my business for good. Save yourself the hassle and being ripped off for extra money when you check out and go somewhere else!

I have been going to to this vision center for 11 years, the staff has always been helpful, intelligent, considerate and humble. They find the absolute best way to help find the right glasses, contacts, washes, and repair for you. Always a large selection of glasses. I would recommend this vision center for anyone. Keep up the amazing work!
